鈥淗ere/Now: First Nations Culture and Media鈥 is a collaborative effort between the Departments of English and Art History and Communication studies, The Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies, the 看片视频 Institute for the Study of Canada, and Media@看片视频.
The third event of the series 鈥淗ere/ Now: Contemporary First Nations Culture and Media鈥 features a moderated discussion and Q&A with writer, director and journalist Marie-H茅l猫ne Cousineau, one of the most influential and dynamic figures in women鈥檚 video production in the Canadian Arctic.聽 Since 1991, Cousineau has been producing and directing both fictional and documentary films such as Unakuluk, Dear Little One, Anaana/Mother and Ningiura/My Grandmother (co-directed with Mary Kunuk) and co-directed with Madeleine Ivalu the 2008 feature film Before Tomorrow, winner of the Best Canadian First Feature Film award at TIFF.聽 She has co-founded Tarriaksuk Video Centre and Arnait Video Productions in 1991, and continues to work with Igloolik Isuma Productions.聽 Cousineau will discuss the significance of women鈥檚 video production in the North, cross cultural adaptation, collaborative filmmaking and her ground-breaking work developing cinematic production in the North, one of the most exciting and lively areas of contemporary Canadian film production.
