As part of Autism Awareness Month in April, a special public town hall event will be held on April 23, 2017 from 12:30 to 4:15 p.m. as part of the Biomusic & Autism initiative led by ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University’s Dr. Melissa Park and Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes from the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy and Dr. Tamar Tembeck from Media@¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ.
An innovative technology that translates the physiological representations of emotional and mental states into musical output, this event will explore the manner in which this technology can be leveraged as a means to recognize the presence of individuals marginalized due to diverse communication capacities, including those on the autism spectrum.
Held at , two panel sessions will assemble an unprecedented group that will include people on the spectrum as well as parents of children and youth diagnosed with autism who hold key positions as employers, administrators, and universal designers in academic, civic and cultural institutions, and will include representatives of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the National Centre for Dance Therapy and Giant Steps – the force behind the Autism Inclusive Cities Project.
