BCL/LLB student Julia Nicol and DCL student Anna Conley win QSCL's first prize

Published: 24 January 2008

Doctoral student Anna Conley has won the Quebec Society of Comparative Law's (QSCL) first prize for her master's thesis, "A Comparative Law Analysis of U.S. Judicial Assistance," which she wrote under the supervision of Assistant Professor Fr茅d茅ric Bachand. Her thesis was also published in World Arbitration and Mediation Review (Vol. 1, no. 5, 2007), a specialist legal journal.

Her thesis analyzes U.S. law regarding judicial assistance to foreign tribunals from a comparative point of view, and highlights the problems with the statute that become quite apparent when comparing the statute with its common law counterparts.

The QSCL's jury noted that her work "was an excellent contribution to comparative law."

In turn, BCL/LLB student Julia Nicol won first prize in the Undergraduate category for her essay "The Legal Clinic in the Malian Context: Why Available Legal Services Are Not Used," which she wrote as a term essay under Associate Professor Adelle Blackett's supervision.

The Faculty of Law congratulates them both on this fine news.
