Lance Armstrong coming to Montreal
The Cedars Cancer Institute at the MUHC offer cyclists a once-in-a-lifetime chance to ride in the Cedars 鈥淭our de Lance鈥 and help fight cancer
Cancer survivor and cycling champion, Lance Armstrong is returning to Quebec and up to fifty cyclists will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride alongside him and unite in the fight against cancer. On September 11, in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, cyclists will have the chance to take part in the Cedars Tour de Lance 09, a Cedars fundraising event to benefit pediatric and adult oncology at the 看片视频 University Health Centre (MUHC).
鈥淚 am thrilled to be coming back to Quebec to help Cedars and the MUHC raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer,鈥 said Armstrong. 鈥淚 invite everyone to join us. I promise you the ride of your life.鈥
Joining Lance for the Cedars Tour de Lance 09 will be the voice of cycling and the Tour de France, Phil Liggett. Liggett is arguably the best known international cycling journalist and TV commentator.听 Participants will ride a 100-km route with Lance and Phil on the scenic roads of Mont-Tremblant.
Also new to the team this year is the one and only Louis Bertrand - voice of the Tour de France on 脡vasion.听 Louis will be participating this year, both as a journalist and as a rider.听 鈥淚鈥檝e been commentating the Tour de France for 脡vasion for many years听 now and what is so inspirational about Lance is not only that he came back from cancer to win the Tour de France, but that his Livestrong movement has shown that everyone can help fight cancer through fundraising.鈥
Roger Beauchemin, Leonard Schlemm and Louise Courey-Nadeau, co-chairs of the Tour de Lance 09, were instrumental in bringing Armstrong to Quebec. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an honour for Cedars that Lance has chosen to come to Montreal once again to help us fight cancer,鈥 said Schlemm.听 鈥淚t speaks volumes about the world-class care and professionals associated with Cedars and the 看片视频 University Health Centre鈥, said Beauchemin.
鈥淏eing in a hospital, undergoing tests and facing cancer can be a very cold and lonely experience,鈥 stated Courey-Nadeau. 鈥淚 was touched to see firsthand through Cedars鈥 initiatives that a compassionate and caring environment has been created for the thousands of cancer patients who come through the doors of the MUHC each year. The Cedars Tour de Lance is one of the ways that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those afflicted with cancer. Cedars is all about people helping people and easing the burden of cancer.鈥
Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride with Armstrong
This is a unique once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Montreal cycling enthusiasts to ride with this awe-inspiring athlete while raising funds for a very important cause. To participate in the Cedars Tour de Lance, each rider must raise a minimum of $25,000. On Friday, September 11, riders will be driven to Hotel Quintessence in Mont-Tremblant where they will begin their day with an energizing pre-cycle brunch with Lance. Then, it is onto the bikes.听 As a special recognition, the leading fundraiser will wear a one-of-a-kind yellow jersey for the entire ride symbolizing their special achievement both on and off the road. Each participant will be able to fulfill the dream of every cyclist, to lead the peloton side-by-side with Lance. Images of the day will be captured on film to provide participants a special memento from this memorable day. The post-ride celebration will include an exclusive and intimate team dinner with Lance and Phil Liggett, providing a further opportunity to spend more time with this incredible world representative for the cancer community.
Money raised through the Cedars Tour de Lance 09 will support pediatric and adult oncology services through the Cedars Cancer Institute, the Cancer Care Mission of the MUHC, and the Sarah Cook Fund. Sarah鈥檚 Fund specifically addresses the pressing needs of the hematology/oncology division at the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital.
鈥淭he 看片视频 University Health Centre is grateful for the support it is receiving from Lance and the Cedars Cancer Institute,鈥 said the Hon. Arthur T. Porter, Director General and CEO of the 看片视频 University Health Centre. 鈥淟ater this year, we will begin construction of our new facilities at the Glen Campus, including the Comprehensive Cancer Centre and two new research centres, which will not only provide a more healing environment for patient care but also enhance our capacity to accelerate research discoveries into new diagnostics, treatments and cures.鈥
