¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ hosts Remembrance Day ceremony

¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University is pleased to again play host to the Royal Canadian Legion’s official Montreal Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. on ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ’s lower field.

The event will bring together veterans, dignitaries and the event’s special guest of honor, Marc Garneau, Member of Parliament for Westmount Ville-Marie. The ceremony will include a 21-gun salute from four cannons positioned in front of ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ's Arts Building, as well as the laying of wreaths and performances by military bands.

In honoring tradition, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians pause to remember the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives in military service. Two minutes of silence will be observed at 11 a.m., between the first and second gun salutes.

In the 20th Century’s two World Wars, ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ lost more than 600 men and women: 363 from ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ perished in World War I and another 298 lost their lives in World War II. ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ also made significant contributions to the medical care of wounded soldiers in both wars. Since then, members of the ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ community have helped resolve conflicts in Kosovo, Eritrea, Afghanistan and elsewhere.
