Ìýfrom the is an academic association dedicated to the advancement of the cross-disciplinary field of Internet studies. AoIR 2020 willÌýgatherÌýinternational, trans-disciplinary scholarsÌýinterested in networked technologies andÌýsocial processes. This year's conference will be held virtually.

Several members of IMPACTS will be presenting at AoIR 2020. Project Director and James ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ Professor, Dr. Shaheen Shariff, is presenting with Dr.ÌýPauline SameshimaÌý²¹²Ô»å research assistants Rebecca Katz and Christopher Dietzel.ÌýIn their panel, the four of them are presenting an overview of IMPACTSÌý²¹²Ô»å the significant milestones from the first four years of the Project, highlighting research specifically related to internet technologies. This presentation canvases the legal obligations incumbent on institutions to address and prevent sexual violence, both on- and off-line. As they drawÌýfrom multi-perspectives, theyÌýwill address image-based sexual abuse and copyright in Canada, and share excerpts from an in-progress epistolary novel.

Additionally, PhD candidate and research assistant Christopher Dietzel will present research fromÌýhis Mitacs Globalink Fellowship.ÌýIn the first presentation, Chris will participate in a panel with Australian colleagues. The panel willÌýaddressÌýthe issue of digital healthÌýparticipation and digital cultures of care among those at the margins (e.g., transgender, non-binary, and female users).ÌýIn the second presentation, aÌýroundtable session, Chris and international colleaguesÌýwill examine strategies and methods diverse users employ to promote safety, health, and wellbeing with the apps they use, as well as the ethical and methodological challenges faced by app researchers.
