Sites Queer Conference

Thursday, February 7, 2019toSaturday, February 9, 2019

聽is an international, interdisciplinary three-day conference exploring the multiple ways in which LGBTQ+ spaces and identities get reconfigured, performed and contested through the technologies and spatial politics of diverse ethnic cultures. We welcome submissions from all cultural backgrounds, and are particularly interested in inviting research projects rooted in Latin American, Asian, Aboriginal and African cultures.

Hosted at the ,聽Sites Queer聽will be a space to discuss, foreground and analyze divergent queer histories, narratives and spatial practices. Subsequently, playing off the word 'site' as a physical locale as well as a digital space, the conference will problematize the ways the Internet, digital technologies, mobile apps and social networks are informing, changing, shaping or contesting queerness for ethnic minorities at urban and rural levels.

IMPACTS Project partner Chloe Georas is presenting on the dilemmas and tensions posed by sexually explicit and anti-surveillance resistance art in the context of debates on feminist/gender studies, visual culture, rape culture, postcolonialism, and new technologies. The presentation is titled, "Coloniality, rape culture, and technology: From sexual explicitness to invisibility in resistance art."

IMPACTS research assistant and PhD student Christopher Dietzel is presenting results from his doctoral studies at the Sites Queer conference. Chris' presentation is titled, "Non-consensual sexual conduct on queer dating apps:聽Examining the tensions experienced by diverse men who have sex with men."聽
