Dr. Ratna GhoshÌýisÌýJames ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ ProfessorÌýandÌýWilliam C. Macdonald Professor of EducationÌýat ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University in Montreal, Canada. She was Dean of Education from July 1998 to December 2003. She was appointed aÌýMember of the Order of CanadaÌý(C.M.) in 2000,ÌýOfficer of the Order of QuebecÌý(O.Q.) in 2005, and was elected aÌýFellow of the Royal Society of CanadaÌý(F.R.S.C.) in 1999. She is also aÌýFull Member of the European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities.ÌýHer publications in books, journals and encyclopedias, her prestigious grants and teaching reflect her varied research interests, which include education and technology. She has done research in Canada, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Professor Ghosh was featured in the Canadian Edition ofÌýTime Magazine, October 13, 2003 issue as one of "Canada's Best in Education".
In 2009 she was selected for theÌýPower ListÌýpublished byÌýIndia Abroad.
She is the recipient of theÌýYWCA Woman of Distinction AwardÌýin 1996, and has received several awards from national and international organizations. She has held important administrative positions at ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ, asÌýDirector of Graduate Studies and ResearchÌýfor the Faculty of Education, andÌýActing DirectorÌýof ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ International. She has had an important leadership role in the development and governance of theÌýShastri Indo-Canadian Institute,Ìýwhich is a consortium of Canadian universities involved in academic exchanges and programs between India and Canada. She served as itsÌýResident DirectorÌýin New Delhi, India, in 1982-83, and asÌýPresidentÌýof the Institute from 1988-90. She has been on the Board of Directors (as well as the Education and International Committees) of theÌýCanadian Human Rights Foundation.ÌýShe is on the editorial board of several international journals. In 2009 she was elected as theÌýPresidentÌý(2011-2012) of theÌýComparative and International Education SocietyÌýof the U.S.
