Fifth Annual ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ Family Medicine Research Division and Graduate Student Society Symposium
The Family Medicine Research Symposium is an annual student-run event hosted by the Family Medicine Graduate Students’ Society (FMGSS). This year marks the 5th consecutive Research Symposium, which brings together faculty, students, and community members to share and discuss current advances in research conducted by graduate students in areas such as family medicine, community health, health technology, and health policy. This year our invited keynote speaker will be Sister Monique Bourget (MDCM’92) a family physician who, for the past 22 years, has been a leader in establishing Primary Healthcare in São Paulo, Brazil. Sister Monique will share her lessons learned in changing healthcare practices in the global health context. We will also host a panel discussion titled Life After Your Degree: Career Planning for the Primary Care Research Graduate, which will feature perspectives from recent graduates in primary care and health-related research programs. Additionally, FMGSS is partnering with the ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ Journal of Medicine to publish the top 15 student abstracts in a special June 2019 issue. Financial support from PGSS is integral in our efforts to increase participation in the event and create a forum for students to gain valuable experience presenting their research to faculty, clinicians and community members.
