What is the First Peoples’ House?ÌýÌýThe First Peoples’ House is a part of ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ Student Services.Ìý We are dedicated to providing support for Indigenous students at ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ by establishing a sense of community and being the first point of contact to help students with any questions or needs.Ìý

Who can use the First Peoples’ House’s services?Ìý Some of the House’s services such as advising, talking circles and any trips we take are dedicated to Indigenous students only, but many events and activities are open to everyone, Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike. First Nations, Inuit and Métis students are given priority when applying for residence in the First Peoples’ House. All are welcome to attend Soup and Bannock lunches on Wednesday!

Who can I talk to for academic support?Ìý Our Indigenous Student Advisor is available to help students with a wide variety of academic issues. For almost any issue, she can help students navigate ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ’s services and refer them to the right person. To ask a question, simply fill out this form.

How many Indigenous students attend ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ?Ìý While it’s impossible to have an exact number, approximately 150 students identify themselves as being First Nations, Inuit, or Métis when applying to ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ.

What Indigenous-focused events occur at ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ and across Montreal?Ìý Every year, ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ organizes a Pow-Wow on the third Friday in September. In addition, the Indigenous Education Program at the Social Equity and Diversity Education Office holds an annual Indigenous Awareness Week, as well as a variety of other events throughout the school year.Ìý Become a member of the and get notifications of community events happening in Montreal.

Does ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ offer an Indigenous Studies program?Ìý Yes, The ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC) recently launched an Indigenous Studies Minor Program in Winter 2015.Ìý

What kind of financial support is available to Indigenous students? Several organizations outside ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ offer scholarships to prospective or current Indigenous students. Here is a list of some of these opportunities. ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ’s Financial Aid Program also supports students in need of support.
