Emergency Department Targeted Ultrasound (EDTU) is a two-day course designed to provide physicians with a strong foundation in emergency ultrasound. The course philosophy emphasizes hands-on practical instruction to maximize the participants’ learning experience. This is achieved with one-on-one bedside teaching on live models. The models used during the practical sessions will be a combination of normal and true positive patient subjects.

The course material is current and relevant to both emergency and family physicians. It is designed to facilitate the completion of the required 50 supervised scansÌýin each of the four areas (aorta, cardiac, abdomen, and pelvis). EDTU includes an e-syllabus as well as five lectures on video. The learners are required to review the materials prior to attending the program. This will allow the instructors to spend less time lecturing and more time instructing during the practical sessions.
