Introducing Simulation Into Your Curriculum: From Principles to Practice

Target audience: Educators whoÌýfrequently develop and/or deliverÌýsimulation-based educational activities.

This one-day workshop is designed for educators with a significant engagement in simulation-based education.ÌýÌýThe program will provide participants with a foundational background of how people learn, the basic theoretical background behind simulation-based education, and the evidence for the use of simulation-based education in practice. Participants will learn how to implement deliberate practice into their educational activities as well as improve their debriefing skills (and learn how to support their colleagues on doing the same). Co-learning with other leaders in simulation-based education will encourage networking and create shared opportunities across theÌý¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ community.

Learning ObjectivesÌýÌý
By the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:
  • ÌýDescribe how people learn and understand the added value of simulation;
  • ÌýOutline the principles of effective debriefing for simulation-based education;
  • ÌýApply different methods of debriefing and describe the advantages / disadvantages of each approach;
  • ÌýDiscuss a variety of opportunities and approaches for teaching and learning with simulation andÌýoutline best practices in each context.

This is an Accredited Simulation Activity (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. You may claim a maximum of 7.5 hours for this activity.
