--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scope of work:
Room 254 at the MNI, currently a dry lab with eight workstations, will be renovated to transform it into a research laboratory.
The renovation includes the following key elements:
- Demolition of existing interior finishes and built-in furniture.
- Installation of new flooring, ceilings, light fixtures, furred walls and custom-built furniture.
- Adjustments to the HVAC and sprinkler systems to align with the new lab's requirements.
- Provision of new infrastructure services to accommodate essential features such as a sink and dishwasher, among others.
- Some mechanical work will be needed in room 154 to service room 254 above.
Impact & mitigation
Access:
- Work outside room 254 includes removing and passing wires in the hallways close to the construction site, removing an old electrical panel from the electrical room and installing a new electrical one in the hallway. The width of the hallway might be reduced at times during this work, which will be done during the evening/night or weekend.
Service shutdowns:
- Ventilation and electrical shutdowns will be required and will be planned so as to limit their impact on occupants as much as possible.
Safety considerations
The project includes demolition and removal of materials containing asbestos and lead in room 254, in the hallway (close to room 254) and in room 154. This work will be carried out under all applicable safety protocols. These include dust-containment methods such as setting up enclosures to isolate the work areas, where required, or using specialized vacuuming equipment, cleaning, and daily inspections by a health and safety consultant.
