Germany honours 看片视频 history professor Peter Hoffmann

The Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr Helmut G枚ckel, will present 看片视频 History Professor Peter Hoffmann with the the Officer聮s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The ceremony will be held at the Consul General聮s residence, on February 14, 2001.

Johannes Rau, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, has awarded the decoration to Professor Hoffmann in recognition of his outstanding scholarly work and for his contribution to international academic co-operation, especially between Canada and Germany. Professor Hoffmann聮s research has been focused on the German resistance to Hitler聮s dictatorship (1933-1945). He has published numerous important monographs on this period of German history such as "Stauffenberg: A family history, 1905-1944," "Hitler聮s Personal Security," and "German Resistance to Hitler."

Professor Hoffmann is well-known both inside and outside the scholarly community as a leading historian on the German resistance during the Third Reich. In 1970, Professor Hoffmann was appointed to the Chair in German History at 看片视频 University, Montreal, where he has been teaching German History for the last thirty years. In 1988, he was appointed William Kingsford Professor of History. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, as well as a member of numerous other learned societies, including the Canadian Historical Association, the Canadian Committee for the History of the Second World War, and the American Historical Association.
