Summer Student Research Awards a hit with students

Offered to undergraduate BScN and master’s level students, this donor-funded program allows students to gain invaluable experience and develop their skills in various facets of research including literature reviews, data collection and analysis, research methods and academic writing. The program welcomes students who propose a small-scale project of their own and seek out a supervisor amongst the ISoN’s faculty as well as students solicited by their supervisors to work on existing projects. Throughout the summer, students receive one-on-one mentorship from faculty supervisors.

The overall goal of the program is to increase interest in nursing research as a possible career option while providing mentorship and leadership opportunities to students. On September 23, 2024, five recipients of these awards presented their research projects as well as lessons learned at a Faculty Development meeting at the School.

The following projects were presented and discussed:

Nisrine El Hila – “Environmental Scan of Obesity Management Programs for Families of Children Under 5 Years of Age” (Andraea Van Hulst, supervisor)

Ella Eremita – “The Collaborative Production of ‘The Hospital of No Surprises’: An Animated Ethonodrama Designed with Children with Osteogenesis Imperfecta to Optimize their Surgical Experiences” (Argerie Tsimicalis, supervisor)

Alex Brousseau - “Exploring Student Nurses' Perspectives of Critical Care Nursing” (William Landry, Argerie Tsimicalis, Alisha Michalovic, supervisors)

Alexandra Claveria – “Improving Assessment Strategies in Undergraduate Nursing Education: A Scoping Review Investigating Methods for Evaluating Health and Physical Assessment Skills” (Maria Damian, Maryam Wagner, supervisors)
