Overview

Composition : A writing course based on the stylistic concepts and resources of European music - 1770-1850 - and designed to develop control of factors such as phrase structure, melodic shape, rhythm, linear continuity, economy of means, notation, and basic contrapuntal procedures. Extensive and detailed analysis of characteristic forms.

  • 3 hours
  • Prerequisites: MUTH 110 and MUTH 111 OR their equivalent.
  • Corequisites: MUSP 229 and MUSP 231 AND MUSP 170 and MUSP 171.
  • Restriction: Open only to students in Composition
  • Students must register for both MUCO 240D1 and MUCO 240D2.
  • No credit will be given for this course unless both MUCO 240D1 and MUCO 240D2 are successfully completed in consecutive terms
