Biography:

Dr. Nicolo Piazza, MD, PhD, FRCO(C), FESC, is a distinguished cardiologist specializing in valvular heart disease, with a focus on transcatheter valve therapies. He earned his medical degree from ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University, followed by post-graduate training in cardiology. Dr. Piazza completed a one-year interventional cardiology fellowship at the Montreal Heart Institute and further honed his expertise with two advanced fellowships: a PhD research fellowship in transcatheter valve therapies at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, and a clinical fellowship in the same field at the German Heart Center in Munich.

Dr. Piazza is cross-appointed between the ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University Health Center and the German Heart Center in Munich, where he leads innovative research in the domain of transcatheter aortic and mitral valve therapies. His clinical work and research have made significant contributions to the understanding of high-risk patient populations, such as those with osteosarcopenia, and to the development of new strategies to optimize outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

He has published numerous impactful articles, including studies on obesity paradox in TAVR, combined transcatheter multivalve interventions, and the long-term outcomes of TAVR compared to surgical valve replacement. His research continues to shape the evolving landscape of interventional cardiology. Dr. Piazza's commitment to advancing the field and improving patient care has earned him recognition as a leader in cardiology globally.
