MONTREAL, QC – Approximately 110 Grade 6, 7 and 8 students from 14 local schools are getting ready to compete in Let’s Talk Science’s All Science Challenge on May 31st at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital – The Neuro, ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ This event is one of 23 All Science Challenge competitions happening at Let’s Talk Science Outreach locations across the country in April and May.

The All Science Challenge at The Neuro is hosted by Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers. The event is a fun-filled day of fast thinking, competition and teamwork that encourages its young competitors to view science, technology, engineering and math as fun and practical choices for their future studies.

The event kicks off with a presentation from keynote speaker Professor Faramarz Hassani from ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ’s Faculty of Engineering. Following the presentation, students participate in a science quiz show that puts their science knowledge to the test in disciplines such as space science, psychology, physics and biotechnology. In the afternoon, students compete in a design challenge, where they build an object using limited materials. In past competitions, students have constructed a cushion for an egg drop, a weight-bearing bridge, and the tallest tower, all using 3M materials to complete the task.

Unique to this All Science Challenge is the Spirit Award video competition. Prior to the event, teams are given the option to pre-submit a video answering the question: "why do we love science?" The top five videos are played during the All Science Challenge and the team with the winning video is awarded the 2013 Spirit Award.
