John Mac Master, esteemed Canadian tenor and Associate Professor of Voice at the Schulich School of Music, is a 2024 recipient of the Voice Education Research Awareness (VERA) Award. This prestigious award is given annually by The Voice Foundation to honour distinguished individuals for their leadership, commitment to education and mentorship, and modeling of voice use and its advancement. Congratulations to violinist Justin Saulnier for winning the 2024-2025 Golden Violin Award competition! Justin will receive a generous scholarship of $30,000 in addition to a 14-karat gold lapel pin in the miniature form of the Golden Violin. In addition, he has been awarded the opportunity to perform a recital at the Canadian Centre for Architecture as part of the Schulich @ Bon-Pasteur series on February 26, 2025.听

In 2023, the Quebec electric vehicle maker Autobus Lion opened a $150 million truck manufacturing facility in Illinois, but its expansion into the United States has not gone according to plan. Much of its 900,000 square foot facility sits empty, and the company is sub-leasing the space. Now, the company is on the brink of bankruptcy and working with investors to determine if it can be salvaged.

In 2022, Quebec鈥檚 so-called 鈥榳elcome tax鈥 generated more than $1.4 billion for municipalities, with Montreal alone pulling in more than $410 million. Though it sounds like a penalty for new arrivals, its name is actually derived from former Quebec cabinet member Jean Bienvenue, who tabled the bill proposing the tax; Bienvenue鈥檚 surname translates into English as 鈥榳elcome鈥. These municipal-level real estate transfer taxes can range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars, and property buyers must pay within 30 days of closing their purchase.

Since 2018, she has been the Chief Operating Officer of MTY Canada, where she oversees, among other things, the 1,106 restaurants that the group operates in Quebec.
