Principle

During your graduate studies in the department, you will be reviewed on a yearly basis, as per a university requirement.

The review timeline is described below:

MSc program

  • Box 1: Research objectives.听
    • When: during the first semester upon arrival and each fall thereafter (prepare for review)
    • Deadline: December 1st, April 1st
  • Box 2: Research progress and development.听
    • When: each Fall (prepare for review)
    • Deadline: December 1st
  • Page 2: Research progress evaluation form.听
    • To be filled by committee members
    • When: each Fall (prepare for review)
    • Deadline: December 1st
  • Page 3: Signatures.
    • Must be signed by student and committee members

The student is responsible for printing and bringing the form to听each review.

After the review,听 the student must upload the form听to myProgress. Upload instructions can be found:听PDF icon myprogress_milestones_instructions.pdf

Preparing your review

Your document should be named using the following format: LAST_First_PhD X Progress Tracking.

  • CHEM 688 and CHEM 701 (Comprehensive): 15 minute presentation followed by up 30 minutes of questions and deliberation
  • CHEM 702: Defense of听 Research Proposal.
    • May be in the same area (eg, chemical physics, organic synthesis)
    • Must not be in your specific field of expertise (carbohydrate chemistry, asymmetric catalysis, metabolism studies)
    • Abstract should be submitted prior to the defense (division-dependent)
    • Progress towards completion of the PhD degree is also evaluated based on a 2-3 slide presentation (5 minutes).
