Exemption by Examination

The Exemption by Examination test is intended for students who do not have the requisite academic background or formal training required, but who believe that they have the requisite level of knowledge needed.

Applicants will be permitted to take an Exemption by Examination test for certain:

  • Prerequisite and/or corequisite courses to the program;
    or
  • Prerequisite courses that are not part of their program.

Terms and Conditions

  • These tests are optional and are not applicable to required or complementary course(s) within a program.
  • If you take and pass the test, you will not have to take thecourse.
  • If you fail the test, you cannot retake the testand you must enroll in course.
  • You cannot review the written test or request a reread.
  • You will not be eligible to write the test for a course that has been assigned as a Qualifying Course.
  • There is a non-refundable fee payable by credit card upon registration.

Schedule

  • Exemption by Examination Tests are generally held in December, April and August.
  • Registration usually opens in the month prior to the exam.
  • The School reserves the right to re-schedule or cancel the tests at any time.

Eligibility Requirements

To take the test, you must meet all these criteria:

  • You must have applied and/or been admitted to an SCS program.
  • You must not have received an unsatisfactory grade, or have attempted the course (this includes a grade of “W”).
  • In the case of CMSC 101 Mathematical Tools for Management Professionals, you must have been officially exempt from, or successfully completed, the prerequisite course CMSC 000 Foundations of Mathematics prior to being eligible to write the Exemption by Examination test.
  • In the case of CMS2 500 Mathematics for Management, you must have been officially exempt from, or successfully completed, the prerequisite course CMSC 000 Foundations of Mathematics prior to being eligible to write the Exemption by Examination test.
  • In the case of CMS2 621 Applied Management Statistics, you must have been officially exempt from, or successfully completed, the prerequisite course CMS2 500 Mathematics for Management prior to being eligible to write the Exemption by Examination test.
