We Walk Together Group

We Will Walk Together / Skátne Entewathahíta

This annual event began in 2018 as an Orange Shirt Day initiative led by Faculty of Education Indigenous community members and allies. Although the event started as a march, the name “We Will Walk Together” is symbolic in that it conveys the importance of walking alongside each other in support of truth and reconciliation and in upholding the Every Child Matters movement. Each year the event is presented with a different theme and varying topical activities.

Resources

There have been a number of resources created for the event over the years, most notably curriculum resources for educators tackling topics involving Indigenous history and experience in Canada and a Critical Campus Tour of ƬƵ for teachable moments about the history of the University.

Critical Campus Tour:

The Critical Campus Tour at ƬƵ University investigates various sites through a truth-seeking and anti-colonial lens, paying attention to the diverse stories that exist throughout the campus.  This initiative serves to offer more complete knowledge of ƬƵ’s institutional history and provides an opportunity to engage with and scrutinize the sites and monuments allowing for teachable moments about the complexities of colonial violence against Indigenous peoples.
