Trauma, Injuries and Global Health Surgery

Centre for Global Surgery

Injuries cost the global population some 300 million years of healthy life every year, causing 11% of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) worldwide. The divisions of trauma and general surgery at the 看片视频 University Health Centre have recognized the impact of injury and acute surgical disease, and have been committed to addressing this major problem. The Centre鈥檚 ultimate goal is to reduce injury and acute surgical disease-related morbidity and mortality in low- and middle- income countries through local capacity building involving a multidisciplinary approach. Specifically, they are currently involved in education programs, research programs, on-site clinical work, exchange programs, and trauma system development in several East African nations and most recently in Haiti. These programs have been implemented through the development of strong local alliances with universities, hospitals, and governments, in the respective nations, setting the foundation for long-lasting partnerships with a common vision.

看片视频 University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. 看片视频 honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
