Short Bio

Dr. Anne-Sophie Brazeau is an Associate Professor and Director of the Dietetics Education and Practice program in the School of Human Nutrition in the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ She is a Fonds de recherche du Québec- Santé (FRQS) chercheur boursier Junior 1 (2021-2025) and a registered dietitian, member of the Ordre des Diététistes Nutritionnistes du Québec (ODNQ). She started her career working in Clinical Nutrition in a University Hospital mainly managing patients with chronic disease. Her interest in improving the long-term health of her patients with diabetes led her to pursue graduate studies in Nutrition.

Her research program builds on patients’ experience and needs. It was informed by patient-partners with whom she works closely. It aims to: 1) understand the patients’ experience with diabetes self-management, 2) inform on diet and eating behaviors in type 1 diabetes in the context of contemporary diabetes therapies, 3) and explore strategies for timely access to diabetes education and support, in both adolescents and adults. She leads a national prospective registry of patients living with type 1 diabetes in Canada, the BETTER registry . Her research projects have been funded by numerous organizations such the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, Diabetes Canada, Diabète Québec and the Société Francophone du Diabète.

Research Interests

Dr Brazeau’s research focuses on health behaviours such as eating behaviours and physical activity and their relation to the development and management of chronic disease. She characterizes the behaviours and self-reported factors associated with those behaviours, and then tests the interventions to improve them.

Current Research

Dr Brazeau's research program focuses on strategies to improve health behaviours of individuals with type 1 diabetes to optimize their control of the disease and its complications but also on prevention development of type 2 diabetes in at risk populations through health behaviour changes.

Currently she is co-leading the BETTER program, a patient-oriented research program focusing on reducing the burden of hypoglycemia in people living with type 1 diabetes. This includes the prospective BETTER registry, but also the development and validation of online self-guided training platform (SUPPORT platform). She is also testing the role of such platform to train healthcare providers (SUPPORT pro) and developing an adapted version for youth transition into adulthood (SUPPORT-T).

She is co-leading the VPN study, a virtual network of youth with type 1 diabetes. The objective of this network is to enhance social support in adolescent and young adults to improve their diabetes care.

She is involved in projects on a) type 1 diabetes transition, 2) supporting women with gestational diabetes through remote support and health tracking, 3) validating a food tracking application and 4) exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on eating and lifestyle behaviours.
