Registration with the Profession (Immatriculation or Licensing during the Course of Study)

All students enrolled in a Nursing program must be registered with the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) (Order of Nurses of Quebec) to have access to clinical studies. B.Sc.(N.) students receive direct communication from the OIIQ to their Quebec mailing address in the Fall semester. Students who do not have a Quebec address and a Quebec permanent code on the Minerva system will not receive this notice, and their clinical placement will be in jeopardy.

Students must provide the OIIQ with the necessary documentation (e.g., certified birth certificate) and respond to questions related to criminal activity (if any). B.Sc.(N.) students register as Student Nurse for which the OIIQ charges a fee; the registration (immatriculation) is valid for the duration of the program. B.N. (Integrated) students must have passed the OIIQ professional examination or have received licensure from the OIIQ to take the first clinical course, NUR1 331. All Nursing students must adhere to the Code of Ethics of Nurses as outlined in the Professional Code R.S.Q., c. C-26, s. 87; 2001, c. 78, s. 6.

Note 1: Registration of a student in Nursing may be revoked by the OIIQ for expulsion from a teaching establishment, unacceptable conduct in the clinical milieu, criminal convictions, drug addiction, alcoholism, troubles of a physical or psychological nature incompatible with the practice of nursing, and for any other act derogatory to the dignity of the profession as outlined in the Professional code R.R.Q., 1981, c. I-8, r. 6, s. 2.01.
Note 2: When B.Sc.(N.) students interrupt their clinical studies, they must return their registration card to the OIIQ during that period. The OIIQ will return the registration card when clinical studies resume. Any student who interrupts studies for more than a year will have their registration card revoked by the OIIQ and another application must be made if clinical nursing studies resume.
