At the Schulich School of Music, you will join a cohort of talented musicians from around the world and train with some of the best professors and performers in their musical areas. Follow these steps to find a program that's right for you and apply:
Note: As of September 2023, screening is no longer required for applicants to the M.MUS., GDP, or PG Art. Dip. programs for classical voice or early music voice.
1. Explore
Discover what we do. Our graduate programs cover everything from jazz performance to early music research. Review our many areas of study and find the one that's best for you. Contact the coordinator of your intended area of study to learn more about the program options.
2. Connect
Find your area of interest. Your education will require hands-on guidance from one of our many talented faculty members. Browse our faculty profiles to find the person best suited to you and your studies.
Applicants to doctoral programs have the option to connect with a potential supervisor to explore their academic interests prior to applying. This practice is not obligatory for composition or other graduate programs; however, we recommend engaging in a conversation with a potential supervisor or instructors during the admission process.

3. Check our minimum admission requirements
Your desired program will have a robust set of admission requirements. At minimum, applicants are expected to have the following:
All students. ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ University requires a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, or a grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 out of 4.0 in your last two years of full-time studies. Applicants to the Schulich School of Music must also provide proof of their English proficiency.
Master’s programs. To apply to our master’s programs, you will require an undergraduate degree in the same music discipline to which you are applying, or its equivalent, from a university recognised by ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ.
Doctoral programs. To apply for our doctoral programs, you must hold a Master’s degree in the same music discipline to which you are applying.
Diploma programs. To apply to the Graduate Diploma in Performance, you must hold a Bachelor’s of Music degree. For the Post-Graduate Artist Diploma, applicants must have at least a Master’s of Music degree.
Note: for graduate programs in Music Technology, applicants with a background in Music Technology or a related scientific or technological field (engineering, computer science, psychology, physics, etc.) are welcome to apply. For PhD in Music, Applied Performance Sciences, applicants with a background in Music, Social or Health-related Sciences or other relevant area from a university recognized by ¿´Æ¬ÊÓƵ are welcome to apply.

4. Apply by December 1
All prospective students should submit their applications and pay applicable fees by December 1. To do so, you must:
- Review the graduate admissions requirements for your program and submit your application through .
- Pay the application fee ($139.20) and – for performance programs only – the audition fee ($82.12)
- Programs that require pre-screening will require you to submit it by December 1.
5. Upload all your supporting documents by December 15.
- Performance programs:Â If you have selected a recorded audition in your application, upload your video by Dec. 15.
6. On-campus auditions (performance programs only)
- Review the required repertoire for your audition.
- Save the date of your audition. The 2024 audition pages are available here. Review them carefully and plan accordingly. We cannot accommodate live auditions on alternative dates. If multiple dates are listed for your instrument and you have a preference, admissions.music [at] mcgill.ca (please contact us) as soon as possible.
