Educational Quality Improvement

Our team provides high-level consultation services in assessment, curriculum, and program evaluation to support the educational practices of faculty and health professionals in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Our work is founded on sound educational theories and principled practices through which we aim to both support the work of educators, and build capacity.

1. Educational Enhancement in Health Sciences

Education in the health sciences comprises three interrelated areas: curriculum, teaching, and assessment. Curriculum comprises the set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in subject matter areas that are taught and learners are expected to learn. Assessment is a process of gathering information to make decisions about learners’ advancement towards learning goals. Teaching refers to the methods of instruction and the learning activities used to help learners master the objectives specified by the curriculum.

2. Advancing Education in Health Sciences

We support educational practices in multiple ways such as: development of course-based assessment tools (e.g., rubrics) and clinical assessment forms; revising course/teaching objectives; creating programs of assessment; delivering effective feedback; and, evaluating the impact and effectiveness of educational innovations. Our work is always informed by theory, and principled practices in education.

3. Professional Development in Health Sciences

A critical aspect of our work is to build capacity for improved health sciences education. We support this effort in multiple ways including: ensuring ongoing and transparent communication with our stakeholders; facilitating of workshops in various topics related to curriculum, teaching and assessment; and, implementing initiatives such as “ask me anything” sessions.
